The mayor of a big American city and his wife Kate were inspecting a construction project one day. A hard-hatted laborer called out to them. “Kate, remember me?” he asked. “We used to date in high school.”
Later, the mayor teased his wife. “You could have been the wife of a construction worker instead of the wife of the mayor.” Responded Kate, “If you hadn't married me, he would have been the mayor.”
미국의 어느 대도시 시장이 부인 케이트와 함께 건설현장을 시찰하고 있는데 안전모를 쓴 노동자가 그들을 향해 소리쳤다. “케이트, 나 기억하지? 우리 고교시절에 데이트했잖아.”
얼마 있다 시장은 “까딱하면 시장 부인이 아니라 건설노동자의 마누라가 될 뻔했군”하며 부인을 놀려댔다. 그러자 아내가 응수하길, “당신이 나하고 결혼하지 않았다면 지금 저 사람이 시장이 돼 있을 걸요.”
