A tribal leader, in Africa, finds that his wife has had a white baby. He brings the baby to the missionary at the tribe and says, "You are the only white man in our land. Explain to me how my baby is white."
Terrified, missionary responds, "Look at those white sheep over there. Among them there is one black one. There is no explanation as to how it got that color and is just a miracle of nature."
The tribe leader pauses for a second, then says, "I understand you well. I'll keep quiet about the baby if you keep quiet about the sheep."
아프리카의 한 추장이 자신의 아내가 백인 아기를 낳았다는 사실을 알게 됐다. 그는 아기를 마을의 선교사에게 데려가서 "당신은 우리 땅에 있는 유일한 백인이오. 내게 이 아이가 왜 하얀 피부를 가지고 태어났는지 설명해보시오"라고 말했다.
겁에 질린 선교사가 답하길, "저기 하얀 양떼를 보세요. 그들 중에 검은 양이 한 마리 있지 않습니까. 어떻게 저런 색깔의 양이 나왔는지 설명할 길은 없어요. 이건 단지 자연의 기적이라고 말할 수 밖에 없군요."
그러자 잠시 생각에 잠긴 뒤 추장이 하는 말, "나는 당신 얘기를 완전히 이해했소. 이 아이에 대해서는 더 이상 말하지 않을 테니 저 양에 대해서도 비밀을 지켜주시오."
