Reaching the end of a job interview, the human resources person asked a young engineer fresh out of MIT, "And what starting salary were you looking for?" The engineer said, "In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package." The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5-week vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years-say, a red Corvette?"
The engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?" And the interviewer replied, "Yeah, but you started it."
직원채용 면접이 끝나갈 무렵, 인사팀 면접관이 MIT를 갓 졸업한 젊은 공학도에게 물었다. "첫해 연봉으로 얼마를 생각하고 있나?" 공학도는 "복리후생에 따라 조금 달라지겠지만 12만5,000달러 정도요"라고 답했다. 면접관이 말했다."글쎄, 5주 휴가와 14일의 유급휴일, 의료비 및 치과비 전액 지원, 회사 측이 임금의 50%를 매칭해주는 퇴직연금, 격년으로 회사 자동차를 제공하는 정도면 되겠나? 차종은 빨간 코르베트 정도면 어때?"
공학도는 자세를 고쳐 바로 앉더니 탄성을 질렀다. "우와, 농담하시는 거예요?"
그러자 면접관이 말했다. "그래, 자네가 먼저 시작했잖아."
