Scholars went out to catch rabbits. There was one who had not a bit of common sense, so the others asked him not to talk lest he should scare rabbits. But when he saw the rabbits, he called out "Ecce multi cuniculi!" That means "Behold many rabbits." The rabbits ran off. Scholars blamed him, but he answered. "Whoever would have thought that rabbits could understand Latin?"
학자들이 토끼를 사냥하러 나갔다. 그들 중에 상식이라는 것은 찾아볼 수 없는 사람이 있었다.
그래서 다른 학자들은 그 때문에 토끼들이 도망갈까봐 제발 잠자코 있으라고 부탁했다. 그런데 토끼들을 보자 그는 "엑시 멀티 쿠니쿨리"라고 외쳐댔다. 이 말은 "저 많은 토끼들을 보라"는 뜻이다. 토끼들은 달아났다. 다른 학자들이 그를 나무라자 그가 대답했다. "토끼들이 라틴어를 알아들을 줄 누가 알았겠나?"
