A New York schoolteacher asked her class to write an essay about the police. George turned in his paper with only three words on it : “Police are bastards.” The teacher was shocked at the boy’s attitude and she arranged for the class to visit the local precinct station and see police at work. The cops showed the children all the station, drove them around in squad cars, let them talk to each other over the radios, and wound up day giving them soft drinks. Next day the teacher asked the class to write anther essay about the police force.
