My husband works hard all week and is also good about helping with our young children, so I don’t begrudge him an occasional Saturday morning of golf, even thought his partner is an attractive woman from his office.
One morning she came over to pick him up at the same time that a plumber arrived.
As my husband got into her car, one of my children was screaming, another dragging on my leg.
The plumber, a new arrival from China, looked confused as he asked, “Was that your husband who just left with the pretty woman?”
When I told him it was, he said “America is a wonderful place to live!”

남편이 그 여자의 차에 오르는 순간, 우리 아이 하나가 앙앙 울어대고 또 한 아이는 내 다리에 매달렸다.
중국에서 갓 이민 온 그 보일러공이 어리둥절해 하며 나에게 물었다. “방금 예쁜 여자하고 함께 간 사람이 남편이신가요?"
그렇다고 하자 그는 “미국은 사람 살기 참 좋은 곳이군요!”라고 하는 것이었다.
