A man hated his wife's cat and decided to get rid of it. He drove 20 blocks away from home and dropped the cat there. But the cat was already walking up the driveway when he approached his home. The next day, he drove a few miles away, turned right, then left, past the bridge, then right again and another right and so on until he reached what he thought was a perfect spot and dropped the cat there. Hours later, he called his wife at home and asked her, "Is the cat there?" "Yes, why do you ask?" answered the wife. "Put that cat on the phone," he said, "I'm lost and I need directions." 아내의 고양이가 너무나도 미운 나머지 남편은 고양이를 없애버리기로 작정했다. 그래서 집에서 20블록이나 떨어진 곳까지 차를 몰고 가서 고양이를 내려놓았다. 그런데 집 근처에 와보니 고양이는 이미 먼저 와서 집 앞 길을 걸어가고 있었다. 이튿날 그는 수 마일이나 운전한 다음 우회전했다가 좌회전하고 다리를 지난 다음 다시 우회전하고 또 다시 우회전을 해서 마침내 확실하다 싶은 지점에 이르러 고양이를 내려놓았다. 몇 시간이 지나서 그는 집에 전화를 걸어 아내에게 물었다. "여보, 고양이 거기 집에 있어?" "네. 여기 있는데…왜요?" 그러자 남자는 "나하고 통화 좀 하게 해줘요. 지금 내가 길을 잃어 어딘지 알 수 없으니 고양이에게 길을 가르쳐달라고 해야겠어"라고 말했다.
