A helicopter was flying around above Seattle when an electrical malfunction disabled all of the navigation equipment. Due to the clouds and haze, the pilot could not determine the helicopter's position. The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, and held up a handwritten sign that said "WHERE AM I?"
People in the tall building responded to the aircraft, drew a large sign. Their sign said "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER." The pilot smiled, determined the course to SEATAC airport, and landed safely. The copilot asked the pilot how he had done it.
"I knew it had to be the Microsoft Building, because they gave me a technically correct but completely useless answer."
헬리콥터가 시애틀 상공을 날고 있는데 전자 오작동으로 기내의 모든 항법장치가 불통이 됐다. 구름과 안개 때문에 헬리콥터의 위치를 가늠할 수 없게 된 조종사는 큰 빌딩을 발견하고 그쪽으로 날아가 "제가 지금 어디에 있죠?"라고 쓴 큰 표지판을 들어올렸다.
빌딩 안에 있는 사람들이 표지판에 큼직한 글씨를 써서 답했다. 표지판에는 "헬리콥터 안이오"라고 써 있었다. 조종사는 빙그레 웃은 뒤 시택공항으로 가는 항로를 정해 안전하게 착륙했다. 부조종사는 그에게 어떻게 방향을 알아냈냐고 물었다.
"그 빌딩이 분명 마이크로소프트 본사일 줄 알았어. 거기 사람들은 기술적으로는 맞지만 완전히 쓸모 없는 답을 했잖아."
