애플은 24일(현지시간) 성명을 내고 최고경영자(CEO)인 스티브 잡스가 CEO직을 즉각 사임한다고 밝혔다.

나는 만일 내가 애플의 최고경영자(CEO)로서 더 이상 내 직무를 수행할 수 없고 기대를 충족시킬 수 없는 날이 오면 여러분에게 가장 먼저 알리겠다고 항상 말해왔습니다. 불행하게도 바로 그날이 왔습니다.
이로써 나는 애플의 CEO직을 사임합니다. 나는 이후 이사진의 동의하에 이사회 의장과 임원, 애플의 직원으로서 일하길 희망합니다.
나의 후임자와 관련해 나는 우리가 준비한 승계 계획을 실행, 팀 쿡 최고운영책임자(COO)를 애플의 새로운 CEO로 임명할 것을 강력히 추천합니다.

Aug. 24, 2011 - To the Apple Board of Directors and the
Apple Community:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of
Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and
Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name
Tim Cook as CEO of
Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at
Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
