A man was driving down a country. He came to a muddy patch in the road and the car became bogged. After a few minutes of trying to get the car out by himself, he saw a young farmer coming down the lane, driving some oxen. The farmer stopped when he saw the man in trouble and offered to pull the car out of the mud for $50. The man accepted and minutes later the car was free. The farmer said, "You're the tenth car I've helped out of the mud today."The man asked the farmer, "When do you have time to plough your land? At night?" "No," the farmer replied, "Night is when I put the water in the hole." 한 남자가 시골길을 운전하고 가는데 차가 진흙구덩이에 빠져 옴짝달싹 못하게 됐다. 그가 혼자서 차를 빼내려고 몇 분간 안간힘을 쓰는데 한 젊은 농부가 소 몇 마리를 끌고 다가오는 것이 보였다. 농부는 남자가 곤경에 빠진 것을 보고 멈춰 서더니 50달러를 주면 차를 진흙에서 꺼내 주겠다고 했다. 남자는 제안을 받아들였고, 머지 않아 차를 빼낼 수 있었다. 농부가 말했다. "이걸로 오늘 제가 진흙에서 빼낸 차가 열 대째네요." 남자는 "그러면 도대체 땅은 언제 경작하죠? 한밤중에요?"라고 물었다. "아니요," 농부가 답했다. "밤은 제가 구덩이에 물을 부어두는 시간이에요."
