Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Officer asked a young Engineer fresh out of MIT, "And what starting salary were you looking for?" The Engineer replies, "In the region of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package." The interviewer enquires, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5-weeks vacation, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years say, a red Corvette?" The Engineer sits up straight and says, "Wow! Are you kidding?" And the interviewer replies, "Yeah, but you started it." 면접이 거의 끝나갈 때쯤, 면접관이 갓 MIT를 졸업한 공학도에게 질문을 던졌다. "초봉은 얼마쯤이 좋겠습니까?" 공학도가 대답했다. "12만5,000달러 정도가 좋겠네요, 물론 사내 복지제도를 봐야겠지만요." 면접관은 "그럼 연간 5주 휴가에 14일의 유급휴일, 치과를 포함한 완벽한 직장의료보험, 격년마다 제공되는 자동차 정도면 괜찮겠습니까? 차종은 빨간 코베트 어때요?"라고 물었다. 그러자 공학도가 벌떡 일어나더니 "와우! 농담하시는 거죠?"라며 탄성을 질렀다. 면접관이 말했다. "당연하죠. 하지만 그쪽이 먼저 시작하셨잖아요."
