A precocious six-year-old asked her mother for a baby brother. Her mother was taken aback by the request but said in a soothing tone, “Sorry, but that just isn’t possible, darling. Babies cost a great deal of money, and Daddy and I just can’t afford one right now. “Mon,” said her daughter in an exasperated tone, “women don’t buy babies. I think you and I should have a little talk!” 조숙한 여섯 살짜리 딸이 남동생이 있어야 겠다고 엄마에게 졸랐다. 엄마는 사뭇 당황했지만 이내 부드러운 목소리로 딸아이를 달랬다. “안됐지만 그럴 수는 없어. 아기를 가지려면 돈이 무척 많이 드는데 아빠랑 엄마랑 지금 형편으로는 그런 돈을 감당할 수가 없단다.”그러자 어린 딸이 버럭 화를 내며 소리치는 게 아닌가. “엄마, 아기는 돈을 주고 사오는 게 아니란 말야. 나랑 이야기 좀 해야겠어!”
