Three hermits lived in a cave. They very rarely spoke. One day, a horse wandered into their cave. "That was a pretty brown horse," the first hermit said more than a year later. After another year passed, the second hermit said: "It was white, not brown." Two years later, the third hermit piped up: "If there's going to be this constant arguing, I'm leaving!"
동굴 속에 세명의 은둔자가 살았다. 이들은 좀처럼 말을 하지 않았다. 어느날, 말 한마리가 길을 잃고 동굴로 들어왔다. "그건 아름다운 갈색 말이었어"라고 첫번째 은둔자가 1년도 더 지난 뒤에 말했다. 또 1년이 지난 뒤 두번째 은둔자가 말했다. "갈색이 아니라 흰말이었어." 2년이 지난 뒤 세번째 은둔자가 목청을 높였다. "이렇게 계속 말다툼을 한다면 난 떠나겠어!"
