President Bush visited an elementary school and asked students to define the word “tragedy.”
One girl replied, “If my mom stepped on my dog, that would be a tragedy.” Bush said, “No, that would be an accident!”
A little boy said, “If our bus driver killed everyone by accident!” Bush said, “No, that would be a great loss!”
A small girl said, “If you were in Air Force One and it was hit by a missile.” He said, “Good. And what was your reason?”
She said, “It would not be an accident and it sure would not be a great loss!”
부시 대통령이 초등학교를 방문해 학생들에게 ‘비극’이 무엇인지 아냐고 물어봤다.
한 소녀가 “우리 엄마가 개를 밟으면 그게 비극일 거예요”라고 답했다. 부시는 “아니, 그건 사고란다”라고 말했다.
한 소년은 “만약 우리 버스기사가 실수로 다 죽게 하는 것이요”라고 말했다. 부시는 “아니, 그건 큰 손실이란다”라고 말했다.
이에 또 다른 소녀가 “당신이 에어포스원에 타고 있는데 미사일이 격추시키는 것이에요”라고 말했다. 부시는 “훌륭해. 왜 그렇게 생각했니?”라고 물었다.
그러자 소녀 왈, “그건 사고도 아니고 큰 손실은 더더욱 아닐 테니까요.”
