A circus owner walked into a bar to see everyone crowded about a table watching a little show. On the table was an upside down pot and a duck tap dancing on it. The circus owner was so impressed that he offered to buy the duck from its owner. They settled for $10,000 for the duck and the pot.
Three days later the circus owner runs back to the bar in anger, "Your duck is a ripoff! I put him on the pot before a whole audience, and he didn't dance a single step!"
"So?" asked the ducks former owner, "did you remember to light the candle under the pot?"
서커스단 주인이 어느 술집으로 들어섰다. 그 안의 모든 사람들은 한 테이블을 에워싼 채 작은 쇼를 구경하고 있었다. 테이블 위에는 거꾸로 엎어놓은 냄비가 놓여 있고 그 위에서 오리 한 마리가 탭댄스를 추고 있었다. 서커스단 주인은 매우 감명을 받아 오리 주인에게 그 오리를 팔라고 제안했다. 그들은 오리와 냄비 값으로 1만달러에 합의를 봤다.
사흘 뒤 서커스단 주인이 화가 잔뜩 나서 그 술집으로 뛰어 들어왔다. "당신 오리는 사기야! 내가 관중 앞에서 냄비 위에 올려놓았는데 춤이라고는 전혀 추지 않더군!"
"그래요?" 전 오리 주인이 물었다. "냄비 밑에 촛불 켜는 것을 잊지 않으셨어요?"
