A couple, desperate to conceive a child, went to their priest and asked him to pray for them. "I'm going on a sabbatical to Rome," he replied, "and while I'm there, I'll light a candle for you."
When the priest returned three years later, he went to the couple's house and found the wife pregnant, busily attending to two sets of twins. Elated, the priest asked her where her husband was so that he could congratulate him.
"He's gone to Rome, to blow that candle out,"came the reply.
아이를 너무도 갖고 싶어하는 부부가 신부님께 찾아가 자신들을 위해 기도해달라고 청했다. 신부님은 "내가 안식기간이라 로마로 떠날 건데 그곳에서 두 분을 위해 초를 켜주겠다"고 말했다.
3년이 지나 로마에서 돌아온 신부님은 부부의 집에 찾아갔다. 그곳에는 임신한 부인이 두 쌍의 쌍둥이들을 분주하게 돌보고 있었다. 고무된 신부님은 축하해주고 싶다며 남편은 어디 있는지 물었다.
그러자 부인이 답했다. "그이는 촛불을 끄겠다며 로마로 갔어요."
