A little girl asked her mother, "How did the human race come about?" The Mother answered, "God made Adam and Eve; they had children and, so all mankind was made." A few days later, the little girl asked her father the same question. The father answered, "Many years ago there were monkeys, and we developed from them." The confused girl returns to her mother and says, "Mom, how is it possible that you told me that the human race was created by God, and Papa says we developed from monkeys?" The Mother answers, "Well, I told you about the origin of my side of the family, and your father told you about his side." 꼬마 소녀가 엄마에게 사람이 어떻게 생겨났는지 물었다. 엄마는 "하느님이 아담과 이브를 만드셨고 그들이 아이를 낳아 지금의 인류가 된 거란다"라고 답했다. 며칠 뒤 소녀가 아빠에게 똑같은 질문을 던졌다. 아빠는 "옛날에 원숭이가 진화하면서 사람이 된 거야"라고 설명했다. 혼란에 빠진 소녀가 엄마에게 되물었다. "하느님이 사람을 만들었다면서요? 그런데 아빠는 원숭이가 진화한 거래요." 엄마가 대답했다. "그야 엄마는 외가 쪽을 얘기한 거고, 아빠는 친가 쪽을 설명한 거니까 그렇지."
