Gilmore was about to check into a hotel when he noticed a girl smiling at him. Gilmore walked over to her and they chatted for a few moments. Soon he returned to the desk with her and they registered as man and wife. Two days later Gilmore checked out and was handed a bill for $2,500. "I've only been here two days," he protested. "But your wife has been here for two months."
